Case IH 2910-17 - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) or Vehicle Control Unit (VCU): Transmission PTO Clutch Valve Actuator (Rear PTO Clutch Solenoid) - Data valid, but below normal operating range

The control module is detecting that the electrical current or voltage in the rear PTO clutch solenoid circuit is lower than the expected normal operating range. This typically indicates high resistance in the circuit, a failing solenoid coil, a poor ground, or a degraded wiring connection.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO clutch solenoid (located on the rear axle/transmission housing) for chafing, corrosion, or broken wires.

   Disconnect the solenoid and check the pins for moisture, dirt, or corrosion. Ensure the connector seats tightly.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the PTO clutch solenoid coil pins. Compare the reading to the OEM specification; an infinite reading indicates an open circuit, while a reading outside the specified range indicates a degraded coil.

   Check for proper voltage at the harness connector when the PTO switch is engaged in the cab. Verify that the ground circuit has continuity to the chassis.

   Ensure the in-cab PTO engagement push-pull switch is functioning correctly and not sending erratic signals to the controller.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent accidental short circuits.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the rear PTO clutch valve block, typically mounted on the rear transmission housing or rear axle block.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the PTO clutch solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid Coil

   Remove the retaining nut or mounting bolts that secure the solenoid coil to the hydraulic valve stem.

   Replace the Coil

   Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut/bolts. (Note: Do not overtighten the nut, as it can distort the coil).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and engage the PTO to verify proper operation. Clear the 2910-17 fault code from the system using a diagnostic tool.
