Case IH 2910-18 - DEC – DEC / UCM: PTO rear clutch solenoid data valid, below normal range - moderately severe
Issue description
The control module is monitoring the electrical circuit for the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch engagement solenoid and is detecting a signal (usually current draw) that is within a readable, valid range, but falls below the expected normal operating threshold. Because it is not a complete open circuit or a direct short to ground, it typically points to high electrical resistance in the circuit, a degrading solenoid coil winding, or a poor/corroded connection.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness running from the DEC/UCM to the rear PTO clutch solenoid for chafed wires, pinched lines, or melted insulation.
Disconnect the harness at the solenoid and at the DEC. Check for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins inside the connectors.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the PTO rear clutch solenoid coil. Compare the reading to OEM specifications (a reading that is too high indicates a failing coil winding).
Check the power and ground circuits for high resistance while the circuit is loaded (or commanded on via a diagnostic tool) by performing a voltage drop test.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and turn off the battery disconnect switch.
Ensure the machine is safe to work on before beginning the repair.
Locate the rear PTO control valve block, which is typically mounted on the rear of the transmission/differential housing.
Identify the correct valve block for the rear PTO.
Thoroughly clean the area around the PTO rear clutch solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Maintain cleanliness to avoid hydraulic contamination.
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the solenoid.
Remove the electrical connection to free the solenoid.
Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the solenoid cartridge stem.
Unfasten the hardware holding the coil in place.
Slide the old solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge.
(Note: You usually do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, meaning no hydraulic fluid will be lost).
Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.
Do not overtighten, as this can distort the coil.
Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather seal is intact and the connector clicks into place.
Ensure a secure and weather-tight electrical connection.
Restore battery power, turn the key on, and clear the fault codes using the AFS Pro display or an electronic service tool.
Clear the logged codes from the system.
Test the rear PTO engagement to verify the repair.
Confirm the PTO operates correctly and the code does not return.
