Case IH 2915 – Trans (Transmission) Controller: 12VS1 voltage supply is low. (possible blown fuse*)

Issue description

The control module is detecting that the voltage on the 12VS1 power supply circuit has dropped below the normal operating limit. This circuit provides dedicated 12-volt power to the transmission control unit and associated solenoids. The most common cause is a blown fuse, but it can also be triggered by a short to ground in the wiring harness or a faulty control unit.

Check the cause

  1. Check for concurrent codes: Look for other low-voltage supply-related error codes on the display. If multiple voltage codes are present, the issue is likely a broader main power supply or battery problem rather than an isolated 12VS1 circuit failure.

  2. Clear and re-test: If no other error codes are displayed, clear the code with an approved diagnostic service tool. Run the vehicle to see if the code returns.

  3. Verify battery voltage: Ensure the tractor's system voltage is maintaining a healthy 12–14V during operation.

  4. Inspect the harness: Check the wiring harness that runs over the top of the transmission to the right-hand side console. This area is highly susceptible to rubbing and rodent damage, which frequently causes the 12VS1 circuit to short to ground and pop the fuse.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Fuse Panel

    Turn off the tractor. Locate the primary fuse and relay panel. On Magnum models, this is typically located behind the operator's seat (accessed by removing a rubber liner and tray) or in the right-hand console.

  2. Identify the 12VS1 Fuse

    Look at the fuse diagram for the TCU/UCM B+ (+12VS1, VS2) circuit. Depending on the exact model year, this is usually designated as fuse F-023 or F-003.

  3. Inspect and Replace

    Pull the 20-amp fuse and inspect it. If blown, replace it with a new 20A mini fuse.

  4. Trace for Shorts (If the fuse blows again)

    If the new fuse pops immediately upon key-on or when attempting to engage the transmission, do not keep replacing the fuse. You have a hard short to ground. Disconnect the harness connector at the transmission control module. If the fuse still blows, the short is in the harness between the fuse panel and the transmission.

  5. Repair Wiring

    Repair any chafed or chewed wires using standard solder and heat-shrink electrical repair procedures.

  6. Final Test

    Reinstall the fuse, clear the fault code, and test transmission engagement.
