Case IH 297 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ENG): OEM Pressure Sensor Voltage is too high.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected that the signal voltage from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) pressure sensor circuit is out of range high (shorted high). This sensor is typically used to monitor auxiliary pressures for the engine protection system.

   Visually inspect the OEM pressure sensor, wiring harness, and connectors for physical damage, corrosion, or missing weather seals.

   Measure the resistance from the ECM OEM harness connector to the appropriate pin on the OEM pressure sensor connector (should be less than 10 ohms).

   Measure the resistance from the signal pin to all other pins in the connector, and then to the engine block ground (both should read more than 100k ohms).

   Disconnect the OEM interface harness from the ECM. Turn the keyswitch ON and read the fault codes. If the ECM is functioning properly, Fault Code 297 should become inactive, and Fault Code 298 should become active.

   Turn the keyswitch OFF.

   Disconnect the OEM harness from the ECM and the OEM pressure sensor.

   Perform the multimeter resistance checks outlined in the diagnostic steps above to test the signal wire for a short to the sensor supply or battery voltage.

   If the harness fails the resistance checks: Replace or repair the OEM wiring harness.

5. 5

   If the harness passes but the ECM does not respond correctly during the disconnect test: The ECM may have an internal short and require replacement.

   If the harness and ECM test good: The fault is internal to the sensor. Replace the OEM Pressure Sensor.

7. 7

   Validation: Reconnect all components. Start the engine and let it idle for 1 minute. Verify that Fault Code 297 changes to INACTIVE.

   Use your diagnostic tool to clear all inactive fault codes.
