Case IH 298965-11 - VCM – VCM: Severe internal failure within the steering valve controller

Triggers when the internal electronics (ASIC) report an error to the microcontroller. For FMI 11, the PSM task record buffer is full or slow PSM data processing is occurring. For FMI 12, micro-controller supervision of the closed-loop (CL) control has failed.

   Cycle the power: Turn the machine's power off, wait 20 seconds, and turn it back on to see if CAN control is restored.

   Check fault monitoring mode: Depending on the system's fault monitoring mode, control of the PVED may be regained automatically if the internal processing error clears itself.

   Verify power and CAN connections: Ensure that the external 5V sensor supply (Pin 11) and CAN bus connections to the actuator are secure and not causing intermittent data processing drops.

   Reboot tractor

   Reboot the tractor to attempt to clear the code and restore CAN control.

   Operate steering system

   Operate the steering system to see if the fault returns.

   Check if temporary

   If the error is temporary, no further action is required.

   Replace PVED actuator

   If the error reoccurs (permanent fault): The official solution states 'Not available. By reoccurrences you must replace PVED-CC' (or PVED-CLS).

   Depressurize hydraulic system

   Depressurize the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect electrical harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the steering valve actuator.

   Remove faulty actuator

   Unbolt and remove the faulty PVED actuator from the main steering valve body.

   Install new actuator and calibrate

   Install the new PVED actuator, reconnect the harness, and perform any required steering calibration via the tractor's display/service tool.
