Case IH 299029-12 - VCM – UCM / VCM: Steering valve controller internal fault

Severe internal hardware failure where the controller's internal memory (EEPROM) has become corrupted or physically failed and can no longer write data.

   Check for accompanying codes indicating voltage issues, such as 520585 (Vref signal out of range) or 520586 (GND level above upper limit), which could cause erratic controller behavior

   Verify the wiring harness to the VCM/UCM is intact and that the controller is receiving stable 5V reference and battery voltage

   Attempt a power cycle/reset to clear the code. If the code immediately returns upon key-on or when the steering system initializes, the EEPROM is permanently damaged

   Depower the Machine

   Disconnect the battery to ensure no power is running to the UCM/VCM to prevent shorting during removal.

   Locate the Steering Valve

   Locate the steering control valve block (typically mounted near the front axle or articulation joint on Steiger models).

   Disconnect the Actuator

   Unplug the CAN/power wiring harness from the Danfoss PVED-CLS steering valve controller.

   Remove and Replace

   Unbolt the faulty VCM/UCM controller from the steering valve manifold and install the new OEM controller.

   Software Flash

   The new Universal Control Module (UCM) will need to be flashed with the correct machine software (e.g., UCM software version 15.2.0.0 for Magnum tractors) using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

   Calibration

   Perform a factory reset and steering system calibration to ensure the LVDT spool position sensors are properly zeroed and the auto-guidance system recognizes the new module.
