Case IH 3002 (DTC 16B1) - UCM – UCM / ECU: Acceleration Pedal Position Device Driver Sensor 1 - Signal Range Check High
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the accelerator pedal sensor that exceeds the maximum allowable threshold. This condition usually indicates a short to power in the wiring harness, a disconnected ground, or an internal failure of the sensor's potentiometer.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Check the foot throttle pedal assembly in the cab for physical damage, debris blocking its movement, or a stuck pedal mechanism.
Wiring & Connector Check: Inspect the wiring harness leading from the pedal sensor to the UCM/ECU. Look for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or corrosion inside the connector pins.
Voltage Test: Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) and has a solid ground.
Signal Sweep Test: Back-probe the signal wire while slowly depressing the pedal. The voltage should sweep smoothly. If the voltage is stuck at a high value (e.g., 5V or battery voltage) regardless of pedal position, there is a short to power or the sensor has failed internally.
Scan Tool Verification: Use a diagnostic tool (such as the Case IH Electronic Service Tool or Jaltest) to monitor live data for the foot throttle sensor position to confirm the out-of-range reading.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the accelerator pedal position sensor, which is integrated into the foot pedal assembly on the cab floor.
Disconnect Harness
Carefully unplug the electrical harness connector from the sensor.
Remove Assembly
Remove the mounting bolts securing the pedal assembly or the standalone sensor to the cab floor or bracket.
Install New Part
Mount the new accelerator pedal position sensor or complete pedal assembly.
Secure
Reinstall the mounting bolts and tighten them to OEM specifications.
Reconnect
Reconnect the electrical harness connector, ensuring the locking tab clicks securely into place.
Restore Power
Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
Calibrate/Clear Codes
Connect a diagnostic scan tool to clear the inactive fault codes. Depending on the model, you may need to perform a pedal calibration or 'relearn' procedure via the diagnostic software so the UCM/ECU can learn the new minimum and maximum throttle voltage limits.
