Case IH 3004 – Engine Controller (EDC) / Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Foot Throttle Sensor - No Signal - Error

The control module is no longer receiving an analog voltage signal from the foot throttle potentiometer. Without this signal, the machine cannot determine the operator's requested engine speed via the foot pedal.

   Check the instrument cluster for secondary codes (such as 3003 for Signal Below Range Min) that might provide more context

   Verify battery voltage is within spec (check for codes 1014/1015 indicating battery voltage high/low), as voltage drops can cause sensor dropouts

   Inspect the wiring harness between the foot throttle sensor and the Engine Controller (EDC) for open circuits, chafing, or shorts to ground

   Examine the sensor's electrical connector (often a 6-cavity Metri-Pack connector) for pushed pins, moisture, or corrosion

   Back-probe the sensor to verify if a 5V reference voltage is reaching the potentiometer and check if the signal wire outputs a smooth voltage sweep when the pedal is depressed

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the foot throttle potentiometer assembly at the base of the foot pedal inside the cab.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the electrical connector from the foot throttle sensor.

   Repair Wiring

   If diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or corroded connector, splice in a new pigtail connector or repair the harness break.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring is intact but the sensor failed the sweep test (internal open circuit causing the "No Signal" error), unbolt the faulty foot throttle sensor/pedal assembly and install the replacement unit.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the harness, reconnect the battery, and use a diagnostic tool (such as the CNH EST or Jaltest software) to clear the inactive 3004 fault code.

   Test Operation

   Start the machine and verify that the engine RPM responds smoothly to foot pedal inputs without throwing a code.
