3010 (DTC 2474) - ECU

Case IH 3010 (DTC 2474) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Intake manifold temperature sensor voltage is lower than expected.

Issue description

The ECU monitors the signal circuit of the intake manifold temperature sensor (IMT). If the return voltage drops below the expected normal range, it typically indicates a short to ground, a disconnected line, or an internally failed sensor. This fault triggers an engine protection mode (inducement), resulting in an automatic engine power loss or derate.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • Magnum Series (MX180, MX220, MX240, MX255, MX270, MX285)
  • Steiger 4WD (STX275, STX325)
  • Puma Series
  • FLX3010
  • FLX3510
  • FLX4010
  • FLX4510
  • SPX4410
  • CPX610
  • CPX620
  • CX210
  • CX240
  • CX290
  • CX330

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the sensor is receiving its 5V supply from the ECU (e.g., ECU connector X516 terminal 33 to the sensor's terminal 3)

  2. Verify the reference ground from the ECU to the sensor (e.g., sensor terminal 1)

  3. Inspect the wiring harness between the ECU and the sensor for chafing, corrosion, or a short circuit to ground

  4. Test the sensor for internal shorts or erratic data. If the wiring is intact and the 5V reference is present but the signal voltage remains low, the sensor has failed

Repair steps

  1. Access the Sensor

Locate the intake manifold temperature sensor on the engine block/intake manifold. Remove any fan shields, harness retainers, or hose clamps that may be obstructing access.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the intake manifold temperature sensor.

  3. Remove

Unscrew and remove the faulty sensor. Ensure the old O-ring is also removed and not stuck in the manifold.

  4. Install

Install the new sensor using a new O-ring to prevent boost leaks. Tighten to OEM specifications.

  5. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor.

  6. Clear Inducement

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and perform the 'Engine Restart Counter Reset / Unlock Inducement' configuration in the EST menu to return the machine to service.
