3010

Case IH 3010 – Engine ECU: Intake manifold temperature sensor voltage is lower than expected

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected the signal voltage from the intake manifold temperature sensor has dropped below the normal operating range. This condition typically points to a short to ground in the sensor circuit, a damaged wiring harness, or a completely failed sensor.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • MX Magnum Tractors
  • MX255
  • MX285
  • FLX4510

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the machine's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply. If connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation.

  2. Inspect the engine harness connector and wiring leading to the intake manifold temperature sensor for signs of rubbing, bare wires, or short circuits.

  3. Perform a jumper wire test: Disconnect the sensor and install a jumper wire on the engine harness connector between the sensor signal (terminal 1) and the common connection (terminal 2). Wait at least 10 seconds. If the code changes to 'Voltage Above Normal', the wiring and ECU are good, indicating a faulty sensor.

  4. Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify the active fault code and monitor sensor voltage data.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the intake manifold temperature sensor on the engine.

If necessary, remove the left and right fan shields or air cleaner outlet tubes to gain access.

  2. Disconnect the electrical plug for the intake manifold temperature sensor.

  3. Remove any harness and hose retainers on the side of the engine that may be restricting access.

  4. Unthread and remove the faulty intake manifold temperature sensor from the intake manifold.

  5. Install the new replacement sensor and tighten it to specification.

  6. Reconnect the electrical plug to the new sensor.

  7. Reinstall any shields, retainers, or intake piping removed during disassembly.

  8. Connect the EST (Electronic Service Tool) to verify that 3010 (DTC 2474) has been resolved.

  9. Check the ECU for the appropriate software and re-flash the ECU if necessary.

Perform this step if the fault has not been resolved despite a new sensor and good wiring.
