Case IH 3014 (DTC 4C84) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Air filter clog or circuit failure present for a long time.

The system monitors the air filter clogging switch in two stages. A first-level warning is triggered if a clog or circuit failure is detected. If the engine speed remains greater than 1400 RPM for 10 minutes without intervention, a second-level warning is triggered. If this condition persists for longer than 30 minutes, fault code 3014 (DTC 4C84) is logged, indicating a prolonged restriction or a hard failure in the switch circuit.

   Verify active status on the diagnostic display to see if the fault is currently active or an intermittent/previously cleared issue

   Visually inspect the engine air filter housing and the entire air intake system for physical obstructions such as heavy dust buildup, debris, or bird nests

   Test the air filter restriction switch (normally open, triggers around 65 mBar vacuum) for continuity; if closed at normal atmospheric pressure, it has failed internally

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the switch and the ECU for shorts to ground, broken wires, or corrosion

   Safety First

   Turn off the engine, remove the key, and allow the engine to cool.

   Access the Air Intake

   Open the engine compartment and locate the main engine air filter housing.

   Inspect and Replace Filters

   Remove the primary (outer) and secondary (inner/safety) air filters. If they are heavily soiled or clogged, replace them. (Note: Do not attempt to blow out heavily clogged filters with compressed air, as this can damage the filter media and allow dust into the engine).

   Check the Switch

   If the filters are clean, locate the air filter restriction switch, which is usually mounted on the air filter housing or on the intake piping between the filter and the turbocharger.

   Test/Replace the Switch

   Unplug the electrical connector. Using a multimeter, check the switch state. If it is stuck closed, unthread the switch and replace it with a new OEM unit.

   Repair Wiring (if necessary)

   If the switch tests fine, trace the wiring harness back to the ECU. Repair any chafed wires or replace damaged connector pins.

   Clear and Verify

   Reassemble the intake system, start the engine, and clear the fault codes. Run the engine above 1400 RPM for at least 10–15 minutes under load to verify the code does not return.
