Case IH 3016 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel temperature sensor voltage is lower than expected

The engine control module is receiving a voltage signal from the fuel temperature sensor that falls below the minimum acceptable threshold, indicating a potential short to ground, a disconnected sensor, or a failed sensor.

   Check if the fault has been resolved by a simple restart. If not, check the ECU (A-095) for the appropriate software version and re-flash if necessary.

   Visually inspect the relevant harnesses and connectors for damage, bent or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires. Verify that the connectors are fully installed and seated. Flex the involved harnesses to check for intermittent connection issues.

   Check that the tractor battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box or charger). If connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation.

   Check the battery voltage on the instrument cluster. Start the engine and run it at 2000 rev/min to ensure the alternator and battery are providing the correct system voltage.

   Locate the fuel temperature sensor

   Locate the fuel temperature sensor, which is typically threaded into the fuel rail or the injection pump housing.

   Disconnect the electrical connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove the old sensor

   Carefully unscrew and remove the old fuel temperature sensor.

   Clean the threads

   Clean the threads on the housing to ensure a proper seal and prevent fuel contamination.

   Install the new sensor

   Thread the new fuel temperature sensor into place and tighten to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect the electrical harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connection is secure and clicks into place.

   Clear fault codes and verify

   Clear the fault codes from the ECU and run the machine to verify the repair.
