3019 (F-102-03)

Case IH 3019 (F-102-03) – Engine ECU (ECM): Intake manifold pressure sensor voltage is higher than expected.

Issue description

This indicates that the Engine Control Unit (ECU) is receiving a voltage signal from the intake manifold pressure sensor (also referred to as the boost pressure sensor) that exceeds the maximum expected range. This is typically caused by a sensor failure, a short circuit to a high voltage source, or a wiring harness issue.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • 240 Series Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
  • 7010 Combine
  • Puma series Tractors (165, 180, 195, 210, 225)
  • Farmall series Tractors (40, 45, 50)
  • Maxxum series Tractors (e.g., 145)
  • Steiger series Tractors
  • Magnum series Tractors

Check the cause

  1. Check if the tractor's battery power supply has been connected to an external power supply (like a jump starter or charger). If connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation.

  2. Visually inspect the relevant harnesses and connectors leading to the intake manifold pressure sensor for damage, bent pins, or corrosion.

  3. Check the sensor wiring for a shorted to high source condition, which directly causes the high voltage reading.

  4. If the physical wiring is intact, check the ECU (ECU A-095) for the appropriate software version and re-flash the ECU if necessary.

Repair steps

  1. Power down

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the sensor

Locate the intake manifold pressure sensor / boost pressure sensor on the engine (on some models, like the 7010 combine, it is located just above the oil filter).

  3. Inspect and clean

Disconnect the 4-pin connector from the sensor. Inspect the connector for moisture, dirt, or pushed-back pins. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

  4. Replace the sensor

If the wiring is good and the fault persists, remove the faulty intake manifold pressure sensor and install the new replacement part. Ensure the rubber seal/O-ring is properly seated.

  5. Reassemble and reconnect

Plug the wiring harness back into the new sensor and reconnect the battery.

  6. System reset

Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault code. If the machine was in a derated state, use the EST to perform the Engine Restart Counter Reset / Unlock Inducement configuration to return the machine to normal service.
