3024 (DTC 13C4) - ECU

Case IH 3024 (DTC 13C4) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Control Unit A-095: ECU internal failure - Ambient pressure sensor voltage is higher than expected

Issue description

This fault indicates an internal hardware or software failure within the control module. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) monitors ambient atmospheric pressure using an ambient pressure sensor that is built directly into the ECU circuit board. If the ECU detects a sensor voltage greater than 4.88 V for a period longer than 800 milliseconds, this fault is triggered. When this occurs, the ECU will freeze the ambient pressure reading at the last valid value.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Puma Series Tractors
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7230, 8230, 9230, 7240, 8240, 9240)
  • A8000 / A8800 Series Sugar Cane Harvesters
  • Magnum Series Tractors
  • Optum Series Tractors
  • Steiger Series Tractors
  • Quadtrac

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if the fault code is currently present and active. If inactive, it may be an intermittent software glitch.

  2. Ensure the tractor/machine battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (like a booster). If connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation.

  3. Check for a proper dataset or calibration error to rule out a software corruption issue.

Repair steps

  1. Flash/update ECU software

Connect the Case IH EST diagnostic tool and attempt to flash/update the ECU (A-095) with the latest software dataset.

  2. Verify fault status

Cycle the key and run the engine to see if the fault code 3024 (DTC 13C4) returns.

  3. Determine if ECU replacement is necessary

If the defect persists after flashing, the internal sensor has failed. Because the ambient pressure sensor cannot be serviced separately, the entire ECU (A-095) must be removed and replaced.

  4. Disconnect battery

    Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  5. Disconnect ECU harnesses

Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors from the ECU.

  6. Replace ECU

Unbolt the ECU from its mounting bracket and install the replacement unit.

  7. Reconnect harnesses and battery

    Reconnect the harnesses and battery.

  8. Program and calibrate new ECU

Use the EST to program the new ECU with the correct machine dataset and perform any necessary injector or system calibrations.
