Case IH 3030-04 - DEC – DEC: Hydro static control unit solenoid electrical circuit fault voltage below normal
Issue description
The controller is detecting that the voltage reaching the solenoid coil is lower than the required operating range. Because of this undervoltage, the coil's magnetic pull is too weak to move the hydraulic spool, preventing the hydrostatic transmission from engaging or shifting properly.
Applies to these machines
1 machine- MAGNUM AFS Connect
Check the cause
Perform a 'Click Test' by toggling the hydrostatic control switch on and off and listening for a distinct metallic click at the valve. No click confirms an electrical issue.
Measure the power supply voltage at the solenoid connector under load to verify it matches system requirements (e.g., 12V or 24V).
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the DEC and the solenoid for loose terminal connections, corrosion, or wire insulation breakdown that could cause a short to a low source.
Measure the coil's resistance with a multimeter and compare it to the manufacturer's baseline to check for a degraded or internally shorted coil.
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Disconnect the machine's battery/power supply to ensure safety.
Disconnect solenoid
Disconnect the junction box connector or DIN plug from the hydrostatic control unit solenoid.
Repair wiring
If the wiring connection between the valve coil and the power supply is desoldered, broken, or shorted, repair the wiring harness or re-pin the connector.
Remove retaining nut
If the coil itself has failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut at the top of the solenoid valve stem.
Remove old coil
Slide the old coil off the valve stem.
Install new coil
Install a new replacement coil that matches the equipment's voltage requirements and secure it with the retaining nut.
Reconnect connector
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring a tight, weather-sealed fit.
Test operation
Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes from the DEC, and test the hydrostatic drive for proper operation.
Parts you might need
(1)Hydrostatic Control Unit Solenoid Coil / Valve Assembly
Replacement must match the specific voltage (12V/24V), inrush current rating, and connector type (e.g., Deutsch, DIN) of the machine's hydrostatic drive system.
