Case IH 3030-06 - DEC – DEC: Hydro static control unit solenoid electrical circuit fault current above normal
Issue description
The controller is detecting that the electrical current flowing through the hydrostatic solenoid circuit is exceeding the maximum allowable threshold. This is almost always caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness, a failed solenoid coil with abnormally low internal resistance, or an internal short within the controller itself.

Check the cause
Harness Inspection: Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the DEC to the hydrostatic control unit solenoid. Look for rubbed-through insulation, pinched wires, or melted casing that could cause the power wire to short directly to the machine's chassis (ground).
Connector Check: Disconnect the harness at the solenoid and at the DEC. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or damage that could bridge the circuits.
Coil Resistance Test: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the hydrostatic solenoid. If the resistance is near zero (or significantly lower than the OEM spec, which is typically a few ohms), the solenoid coil is internally shorted and is the cause of the high current draw.
Circuit Continuity Test: With the solenoid disconnected, check for continuity between the solenoid supply wire and a known good chassis ground. If continuity exists, the wiring harness has a short to ground and must be repaired.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic tests revealed a short to ground in the harness, locate the chafed section. Splice in new wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink connectors, or replace the affected harness section.
Replace the Solenoid
Locate the hydrostatic control unit on the drive pump. Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the cartridge valve. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the valve stem and torque the retaining nut to specification.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid. Ensure the locking tab clicks into place.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and use the in-cab display or a diagnostic service tool to clear the inactive 3030-06 fault code.
Test Operation
Start the machine and test the hydrostatic drive in forward and reverse to ensure smooth operation and verify that the fault code does not return.
