Case IH 3035 (F-175-04) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Engine oil temperature sensor voltage is lower than expected

This condition occurs when the voltage signal returning from the engine oil temperature sensor to the controller drops below the minimum allowable threshold, usually indicating a short circuit to ground in the sensor wiring, a failed sensor that is internally shorted, or a severely compromised connection.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the engine oil temperature sensor for chafing, melting, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins on both the sensor and the harness connector for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or moisture intrusion.

   Use a multimeter to check the signal wire for continuity to ground. If the wire is shorted to the chassis or ground wire, the harness must be repaired.

   Test the internal resistance of the sensor. If the resistance is out of specification (indicating an internal short), the sensor is the culprit.

   Prepare machine

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the engine oil temperature sensor. On these engines, it is typically threaded into the engine block or located near the oil filter housing.

   Disconnect wiring

   Disconnect the engine wiring cable connector specifically routed to the oil temperature sensor.

   Prepare for oil catch

   Place a clean catch pan beneath the sensor area to catch any residual engine oil.

   Remove faulty sensor

   Unthread and remove the faulty engine oil temperature sensor using a deep socket or wrench.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new engine oil temperature sensor, ensuring the sealing washer/gasket is properly seated. Torque to the manufacturer's specification.

   Reconnect wiring

   Reconnect the wiring harness connector until it clicks securely into place.

   Clear fault code

   Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a diagnostic service tool to clear the inactive 3035 fault code from the Engine ECU.

   Verify repair

   Start the engine and verify that the oil temperature reads accurately on the dash/display without the code returning.
