Case IH 3051 (DTC 1161) - ECU – Electronic Control Unit (ECU) A-095: Battery voltage is higher than expected
Issue description
This fault code indicates an overvoltage condition. It is triggered when the control module monitors the battery voltage and determines that the system voltage has exceeded 16.1 Volts.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
- Puma Series (e.g., 115, 125, 140, 165, 180, 195, 210)
- Magnum Series (MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
- Maxxum Series
- A8000 / A8800 Sugar Cane Harvesters
Check the cause
External Power Supply Check: Verify that the machine's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (such as a high-voltage jump starter or an incorrect battery charger). If an external power supply is connected, disconnect it immediately and test the system for normal operation.
Charging System Test: Use a multimeter to test the battery voltage while the engine is running. If the voltage reads greater than 16.1V, the charging system (alternator/voltage regulator) is overcharging.
EST Verification: Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check if the fault is currently active or intermittent.
Repair steps
Disconnect External Power
If the machine was being jump-started or charged with an external unit, remove the external source, clear the codes, and run the machine to see if the code returns.
Repair/Replace the Charging System
If the multimeter confirms the alternator is outputting more than 16.1V, the alternator's internal voltage regulator has failed. Remove and replace the alternator.
Address the ECU / Software
If the charging system is functioning normally (outputting standard 14V-14.5V) and no external power is connected, the fault lies within the A-095 ECU itself or its software. The ECU will need to be reflashed with updated software by a dealer, or the A-095 ECU must be replaced.
