Case IH 3052 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Battery Voltage to ECM too Low
Issue description
The voltage supply reaching the engine's computer has dropped below the minimum operating threshold.
Applies to these machines
14 machines- skid steer
- Magnum 215
- Magnum 235
- Magnum 245
- Magnum 340 Series 4
- Steiger
- Quadtrac
- Farmall

- Axial-Flow 7088
- 580 Super N Backhoe Loader
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
Check the cause
Note the Timing: Check if the code occurs during a cold start when battery voltage naturally drops under heavy starter load.
Test the Battery: Check the battery's resting voltage and perform a load test to ensure it can maintain adequate voltage during cranking.
Test the Alternator: Verify that the alternator is properly charging the system once the engine is running.
Inspect Wiring: Check the wiring harness and connections specifically routing to the ECU. Look for loose grounds, corroded terminals, or damaged wires that could cause a voltage drop.
Repair steps
Inspect and Clean Connections
Clean the battery terminals and ensure the main ground to the chassis/engine block is tight and free of corrosion.
Replace the Battery
If the battery fails a load test or drops below acceptable voltage thresholds during a cold start, replace it.
Replace the Alternator
If the battery is good but the system voltage does not rise to the proper charging specification while the engine is running, replace the alternator.
Repair Wiring
Repair or replace any damaged sections of the wiring harness supplying power to the ECM.
Replace the ECM
If the battery, alternator, and wiring all test perfectly, internal ECU problems can cause this defect. The ECM must be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.
