Case IH 3066 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Cylinder5 - Application Dependent

The engine control system has detected an electrical issue—typically a defective injector coil, an open circuit, or a short circuit—preventing the Cylinder 5 fuel injector from operating correctly, resulting in a Signal Low condition.

   Wiring Harness Inspection: Check the wiring harness and connectors between the ECM and the Cylinder 5 fuel injector for any signs of chafing, corrosion, short circuits (to ground or battery), or open circuits.

   Coil Resistance Test: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the Cylinder 5 injector coil. A reading outside of OEM specifications indicates a defective coil.

   Injection Signal Test: Verify that the ECM is sending the proper injection signals to the cylinder.

   ECU Verification: If the wiring is intact and the injector coil tests good, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) itself may be defective and require replacement.

   Safely shut down the machine, disconnect the battery, and access the engine's valve cover/injector area.

   Locate the Cylinder 5 fuel injector and disconnect its electrical harness.

   Perform the diagnostic continuity and resistance tests mentioned above.

   If the injector coil is deemed defective, clean the area around the injector to prevent debris from entering the engine.

   Remove the high-pressure fuel line connected to the Cylinder 5 injector.

   Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt and carefully extract the faulty injector from the bore.

   Clean the injector bore thoroughly.

   Install the new fuel injector using new O-rings and copper sealing washers (never reuse old seals).

   Reinstall the hold-down clamp and high-pressure fuel line, torquing all fittings to exact OEM specifications.

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

    Use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to program/code the new injector's trim code into the ECM.

    This ensures proper fuel delivery and atomization.

    Clear the fault codes and test run the engine to verify the repair.
