Case IH 3074 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / ENG): Cylinder6 - Application Dependent
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical fault in the fuel injector circuit for Cylinder 6. It typically points to an open circuit, a short circuit (high side to ground or low side to battery), or a resistance value that is out of range on the injector solenoid or its wiring harness.

Check the cause
Inspect the engine wiring harness from the Engine ECU to the Cylinder 6 injector for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points that could cause a short to ground or an open circuit.
Disconnect the harness at the ECU and at the Cylinder 6 injector to check for corrosion, bent pins, or loose connections.
Measure the resistance of the Cylinder 6 injector solenoid directly at the injector pins and compare the reading to the OEM specification to check for internal shorts or open circuits.
Test the harness for continuity between the ECU connector and the injector connector to rule out a broken wire.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Turn off the battery disconnect switch to ensure no power is running to the Engine ECU. Clean the area around the valve cover and Cylinder 6 to prevent debris from entering the engine.
Access the Injector
Remove the engine valve cover (or access panels) as required to reach the Cylinder 6 injector harness.
Disconnect Electricals
Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the Cylinder 6 injector solenoid.
Remove Fuel Lines
Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connected to the Cylinder 6 injector. Cap the fuel rail and line fittings immediately to prevent contamination.
Remove the Injector
Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.
Install the New Injector
Lubricate the new injector O-rings with clean engine oil. Seat the new injector into the cylinder head and torque the hold-down clamp to the OEM specification.
Reassemble
Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line (torque to spec) and plug in the electrical connector. Reinstall the valve cover with a new gasket if applicable.
Test
Reconnect the battery, clear the active 3074 fault code using a diagnostic scan tool, and run the engine to verify there are no fuel leaks and the code does not return.
