Case IH 3079 – Engine Controller (ENG) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Cylinder2 - Injector Cable Short circuit (High Side to Ground)
Issue description
The engine's control system has detected a short to ground on the high-voltage supply circuit (the "high side") of the fuel injector wiring for engine cylinder #2. This electrical fault prevents the injector from firing, which typically results in engine misfires, rough idling, and a derated power condition.

Check the cause
Visual Harness Inspection: Inspect the injector wiring harness between the Engine Controller and the Cylinder 2 injector. Look for chafed insulation, bare wires, or pinched cables that could cause the high-side wire to ground out against the engine block.
Electrical Resistance Test: Disconnect the harness and test the resistance of the Cylinder 2 injector itself. According to FPT engine service data, a healthy injector should read approximately 0.57 ohms. If the resistance is out of spec, the injector is internally shorted.
Pulse Testing: You can use a Solenoid/Injector Pulse Tool (Case Part No. 380002417) connected to the battery and the injector harness leads. Push the button on the pulse tool and listen for an audible "click" at the injector. If it does not click, the injector has failed.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to protect the Engine Controller from voltage spikes.
Access the Injector
Remove the necessary engine covers or valve cover to access the Cylinder 2 fuel injector and its wiring harness.
Repair or Replace Wiring
If the diagnostic tests revealed a short in the wiring harness, repair the chafed wire or replace the injector wiring harness assembly.
Replace the Injector (If internally shorted)
If the harness is good but the injector failed the resistance/pulse test, remove the high-pressure fuel line and the injector hold-down clamp, then extract the faulty injector. Install the new injector using new sealing washers and O-rings, and torque the hold-down clamp to OEM specifications.
Program the IMA Code
This is a critical step. If the injector is replaced, you must use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Read the 9-digit IMA code printed on the top of the new Bosch injector. In the EST software, enter this code into the "MODIFIED VALUES" column for Cylinder 2, and press "SAVE DATA TO CONTROLLER".
Finalize
Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes, and test run the engine to verify the repair.
