Case IH 3083 – Engine Control Module: Cylinder4 - Injector Cable Short circuit (High Side to Ground)

The engine control system has detected a short circuit to ground on the high-voltage/power side of the electrical circuit for the cylinder 4 fuel injector.

   Inspect the injector cable and wiring harness leading to the cylinder 4 injector for visible damage, chafing, or bare wires shorting against the engine block or ground.

   Use a multimeter to test the high-side wiring of the cylinder 4 injector circuit for continuity to ground.

   Test the cylinder 4 fuel injector coil for a short circuit or out-of-specification resistance, as a defective coil is a primary cause if the wiring is intact.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the machine's battery to ensure safety while working on the engine's electrical and high-pressure fuel systems.

   Disconnect connector

   Locate the cylinder 4 fuel injector and disconnect its electrical connector.

   Repair wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged section of the injector cable or replace the engine wiring harness.

   Remove injector

   If the wiring tested good, the injector coil is defective. Remove the cylinder 4 fuel injector assembly.

   Install injector

   Install the new fuel injector, ensuring you use new O-rings and sealing washers.

   Reconnect connector

   Reconnect the injector electrical connector and restore battery power.

   Clear codes

   Clear the fault codes from the Engine ECU using a diagnostic tool and run the engine to verify the repair.
