Case IH 3083 (DTC 6326) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Short circuit error of injector in cylinder 5
Issue description
Triggered when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) diagnostic procedure uses pattern detection to identify a hardware error in the power stages of the injectors. Specifically, it means the ECU has detected a short circuit on the wiring or the internal solenoid coil of the fuel injector for cylinder 5.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Puma series
- Magnum series
- Maxxum series
- Steiger series
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
- 7230
- 8230
- 9230
- Patriot Sprayers
- WD series windrowers
Check the cause
Check for companion codes (e.g., 3075/DTC 6526, 3067/DTC 6726, or 3218/DTC 7216) to determine if multiple injectors or a shared bank wiring issue is present.
Inspect the engine wiring harness between the ECU and the cylinder 5 injector for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the cylinder 5 injector and measure resistance across the terminals to check for an internal dead short.
With the injector unplugged, check the harness side for continuity to ground or voltage to isolate the short to the wiring.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Always disconnect the machine's batteries before performing service on the electrical or fuel injection system.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short circuit in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the engine harness as required.
Replace Injector
If the wiring is intact and the injector solenoid is internally shorted: Clean the area around the cylinder 5 injector, remove the high-pressure fuel line, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt and carefully extract the injector. Install the new injector with new copper sealing washers and O-rings. Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque to OEM specifications. Install a new high-pressure fuel line.
Reassemble and Bleed
Reconnect the battery, prime the fuel system to bleed out air, and start the engine.
Clear Codes
Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 3083 (DTC 6326) fault code and verify it does not return during a test run.
