Case IH 3085 – Engine Electronic Management (EEM3 / EEM4) ECU or Engine Controller (EDC): Air filter pressure sensor defect / Air filter pressure sensor active at init state
Issue description
The engine control unit is detecting an implausible signal from the air filter pressure sensor. Specifically, the sensor is indicating a blocked air filter (high pressure/voltage) even though the engine is not running (initialization state). This triggers a warning lamp and stores the fault in the system.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Case IH MX series
- Case IH TG series
- Case IH Steiger series
- Case IH Magnum series
- Case IH Puma series
Check the cause
Verify Engine State: Ensure the error is actively logging when the engine is off (key on, engine off), which confirms the sensor is reading a false blockage.
Wiring & Connector Inspection: Check the air filter pressure sensor wiring for defects, shorts to voltage, or rubbed/bare wires. Look closely for oxidation inside the sensor connector.
Sensor Swap Test: Check the operation with another known-good air filter pressure sensor to verify if the original sensor is internally shorted/defective.
Filter Inspection: Physically inspect the primary and secondary engine air filters to ensure they are not severely plugged with dirt, which could cause legitimate high-pressure readings once the engine is running.
Repair steps
Clean or Replace Filters
Remove the outer (primary) and inner air filter elements. If they are heavily soiled, replace them.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed bare wires rubbing against the chassis or engine block (a common issue near the CAM/Crank/Air sensors), wrap each individual wire with electrical tape and tightly re-wrap the harness. Clean any oxidation from the connector pins.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact but the sensor still reads high voltage/pressure at rest, the sensor is defective. Unplug the harness, unthread/unclip the old air filter pressure sensor, and install the replacement.
Clear Codes
Cycle the key and use a diagnostic tool to clear the stored EEM/ECU fault codes. Verify that the warning lamp remains off.
