Case IH 3090 – ECU A-095: Camshaft speed sensor values are not plausible
Issue description
The ECU evaluates the signals received from the camshaft and crankshaft speed sensors for angle and speed determination, signal plausibility, and quality. The fault is triggered if the ECU determines that the camshaft speed signal shows no errors, but no camshaft edge signal has been detected at least four times.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Puma Series Tractors
- Case IH 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
- Case IH Farmall Tractors (40-45-50) with Cab and CVT Transmission
Check the cause
Check for related active faults (3089, 3088, or 3177) and resolve them first.
Verify that the tractor's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply.
Inspect relevant harnesses and connectors for damage, bent or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires.
Perform a wiggle test by flexing the involved harnesses while monitoring the display to reveal intermittent breaks or shorts.
Repair steps
Resolve wiring issues
If the visual inspection or wiggle test reveals damage to the harness or connectors, repair the damaged wiring or replace the connector pins. Verify that the connectors are fully seated and locked.
Clear and retest
If no wiring damage is found and the display indicates normal readings after reconnecting, erase the fault code and operate the machine to see if the code returns.
Software check
If the fault persists and wiring is intact, check the ECU A-095 for the appropriate software version. Re-flash the ECU software if necessary.
Sensor replacement
If the wiring is sound, the ECU software is up to date, and the code remains active, the camshaft speed sensor itself is likely faulty and must be replaced. Remove the old sensor, install the new OEM replacement, and clear the codes.
