Issue description

This typically points to an electrical issue rather than a mechanical fuel pressure failure. The underlying condition is usually an open circuit in the wiring, a short circuit to ground, a loss of the 12V sensor supply voltage, or an internally failed sensor.

Check the cause

  3. Short Circuit Test: Check the signal wire for a short circuit to ground or to another external voltage source.

  4. Supply Voltage Check: Turn the key ON and verify that the ECU is sending the correct reference voltage (usually 5V or 12V depending on the specific engine tier) to the sensor. If supply voltage is missing, check for related codes (like 3118 or 3119) which indicate an internal ECU supply voltage failure.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Relieve Pressure

    Ensure the engine has been off long enough for the high-pressure fuel rail to depressurize.

  3. Access the Sensor

    Locate the fuel rail pressure sensor, which is threaded directly into the common fuel rail.

  4. Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

    If your diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or short to ground, repair the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail. If the wiring is intact, proceed to replace the sensor.

  5. Replace Sensor

    Unplug the electrical connector. Use a wrench to carefully unthread the defective sensor from the fuel rail. Install the new sensor and torque it to the manufacturer's specification.

  6. Reassemble

    Reconnect the sensor's electrical connector and reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear Codes

    Turn the key ON. Use the tractor's in-cab display (e.g., navigating to the H8 or HC menu to clear stored EEPROM error codes) or an Electronic Service Tool to clear the fault.

  8. Test

    Start the engine and verify that the fault code does not return and that the machine operates properly.
