Case IH 3111 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Rail pressure sensor value is below minimum offset
Issue description
The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) monitors the fuel rail pressure against offset drift when the engine is at a standstill after a designated waiting period. This waiting period allows the fuel rail pressure to drop to ambient atmospheric pressure. If the ECU determines that the raw voltage/value from the rail pressure sensor drops below the minimum allowable offset limit during this check, it logs this fault code.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Steiger T4B
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
- Magnum Series (235–340 Series 4, MX series)
- Steiger Series (350–600)
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Farmall Series
Check the cause
Verify that the tractor's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump starter or external charger). If connected, disconnect and test for normal operation.
Inspect the relevant harnesses and connectors leading to the fuel rail pressure sensor (Sensor B-015) for damage, bent or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires.
Verify that the connectors are fully seated and flex the involved harnesses to check for intermittent short circuits to an external source.
Check the ECU (A-095) for the appropriate software version. A re-flash may be necessary if the sensor and wiring are mechanically sound but the offset logic is drifting.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and allow the engine to stand still for the required waiting period so the rail pressure can naturally drop to ambient pressure.
Inspect and Repair Wiring
Perform the visual and physical flex tests on the wiring harness connecting the ECU to the fuel rail pressure sensor. Repair any damaged wires or clean corroded connector pins.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact, no external power supply is interfering, and the ECU software is up to date, the rail pressure sensor itself is defective and must be replaced.
Re-test
After replacing the sensor, clear the fault codes. Run the engine, shut it down, and let it sit through the ECU's waiting period to verify that the offset monitoring code does not return.
