Case IH 3119 (DTC E92D) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Internal 12V supply voltage is too low
Issue description
The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) actively monitors its internal 12-volt sensor supply voltage. If the ECU determines that this internal voltage value has dropped below the expected lower limit, it will log this fault.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Puma series
- Magnum 235–340 (Series 4)
- Farmall
- Maxxum
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7230, 8230, 9230)
Check the cause
Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if the fault code is currently active or if it was an intermittent historical code.
Verify that the machine battery has not been connected to an external power supply (such as a jump starter or external charger). If connected, disconnect it and test for normal operation.
Check for any other accompanying error codes, as a broader electrical issue could be pulling the voltage down.
Check the machine's battery voltage and alternator output to ensure the ECU is receiving the correct baseline voltage from the main harness.
Repair steps
Verify software
Check the Engine ECU (A-095) to ensure it is running the appropriate and most up-to-date software.
Re-flash the ECU
If the software is outdated or corrupted, re-flash the ECU using the Electronic Service Tool (EST).
Test operation
Cycle the power and test the machine. If the fault has been resolved, return the machine to service.
Inspect harness
If the fault persists, visually inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors leading to the ECU for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires that could cause a voltage drop.
Replace ECU
If the external wiring and battery voltage are confirmed good, and the ECU cannot be successfully re-flashed or continues to report low internal voltage, the ECU (A-095) has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
