Case IH 3121 (517801.03) - DEC – Engine Controller (ECM) or Driveline Electronic Controller (DEC): PTO Twist Sensor - Open Circuit

The controller is not detecting a complete electrical circuit to the PTO twist sensor, which monitors the torque/twist on the Power Take-Off shaft to ensure it operates at correct speeds and loads.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO twist sensor for any breaks, chafing, or disconnected wires that would cause an open circuit.

   Inspect the 3-pin connector at the sensor (often an AMP Superseal 1.5 or Delphi Metri-Pack) for corrosion, backed-out pins, or moisture.

   Ensure the PTO is completely turned off during diagnostic testing, as starting the PTO during sensor checks or calibration can trigger secondary faults.

   Repair Wiring

   If an open circuit is found in the harness or connector, repair the broken wire or replace the connector pigtail.

   Replace Sensor

   If the wiring and connector test good (continuity is present from the ECU to the sensor plug), the internal circuitry of the PTO twist sensor has failed and the sensor must be replaced.

   Recalibrate

   After replacing the sensor or repairing the wiring, you must calibrate the new PTO twist sensor. Failure to do so will immediately trigger a secondary fault code (Code 3123, U50, U70, or TC6: "PTO Twist Sensor - Not Calibrated").

   Calibration Prep

   When running the electronic calibration procedure, ensure that the air conditioning is switched off and all electro-hydraulic applications are deselected.
