Case IH 3121 – Engine Controller (ENG) / Engine ECU: PTO Twist Sensor - Open Circuit

The control module is unable to detect a complete electrical circuit to or from the sensor responsible for monitoring the torque/twist load on the Power Take-Off (PTO) driveline.

   Inspect the wiring harness routed to the rear PTO twist sensor for physical damage, chafing, or severed wires.

   Disconnect the PTO twist sensor and check the 3-pin connector for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins.

   Use a multimeter to test for continuity between the sensor connector and the Engine ECU to determine if the open circuit is in the machine's wiring harness or internal to the sensor itself.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the PTO twist/torque sensor on the rear PTO driveline housing.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire or damaged connector, splice in a new 3-pin pigtail connector and clear the codes.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring harness tests good, the sensor has failed internally. Remove the mounting hardware and extract the faulty PTO twist sensor.

   Install New Part

   Install the replacement OEM PTO twist sensor and reconnect the wiring harness.

   Calibrate the Sensor

   You must perform a PTO Twist Sensor Calibration after replacement. Installing a new sensor without calibrating it will immediately trigger a related fault code: 3123 (PTO Twist Sensor - Not Calibrated). This is done via the tractor's diagnostic display or service tool.
