Case IH 3125 – Engine Controller (ENG) / Engine ECU: Hand Throttle - Channel 2 Signal Below Range Minimum

Triggers when the voltage signal returning from Channel 2 of the hand throttle potentiometer drops below the minimum acceptable threshold programmed into the controller. This typically indicates an open circuit, a short to ground, or a worn-out dead spot on the potentiometer's internal track.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the hand throttle (located on the right-hand console or armrest) for pinched wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

   Using a multimeter, verify that the potentiometer is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) from the Engine ECU and has a solid ground connection.

   Check the Channel 2 signal wire for continuity between the throttle connector and the Engine ECU harness. Test for a short to ground.

   Back-probe the Channel 2 signal wire and perform a sweep test. Slowly move the hand throttle from the idle position to full throttle. The voltage should scale smoothly. If the voltage drops out suddenly or reads near 0V at any point, the potentiometer has failed internally.

   Ensure the physical throttle lever is not frozen, damaged, or misaligned, and that the internal return spring of the potentiometer is intact.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor key and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Sensor

   Remove the trim panels on the right-hand fender console or armrest to expose the hand throttle lever assembly.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the hand throttle potentiometer.

   Remove the Potentiometer

   Remove the retaining screws or clips securing the potentiometer to the throttle lever mechanism.

   Install the New Part

   Mount the new potentiometer, ensuring the mechanical linkage and internal spring align correctly with the throttle lever's pivot point. Secure it with the retaining screws.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical harness and reinstall the console trim panels. Reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Recalibrate the throttle control so the Engine ECU can learn the new minimum and maximum voltage values of the replacement sensor. This is typically done through the tractor's instrument cluster calibration menu or via a dealer diagnostic tool.
