Case IH 3132 – VCM: Over Boost Detection
Issue description
The engine control system has detected that the intake manifold boost pressure has exceeded the maximum allowable limit for the current engine load and speed. This underlying condition is typically caused by a mechanical issue, such as a stuck turbocharger wastegate or a malfunctioning Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) actuator stuck in the closed or high-boost position, or an electrical issue where a faulty boost pressure sensor provides an inaccurately high reading.

Check the cause
Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the boost pressure reading with the key ON and the engine OFF. It should match atmospheric pressure. If it reads artificially high, the sensor or wiring is faulty.
Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the boost pressure sensor for corrosion, chafing, or a short circuit to a high-voltage source (SRC High).
Inspect the turbocharger wastegate linkage or VGT actuator. Ensure it moves freely and is not physically jammed in the closed (maximum boost) position.
Remove the sensor and check the intake manifold port for severe soot or carbon blockages that could be distorting the pressure readings.
Repair steps
Prepare machine
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the sensor
Locate the boost pressure sensor, which is typically mounted directly on the intake manifold or the charge-air cooler piping (on some models, like the 7010 combine, it is located just above the engine oil filter).
Disconnect harness
Carefully depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor.
Remove sensor
Remove the retaining bolt(s) or unscrew the sensor from its mounting port.
Clean the port
Wipe away any carbon buildup or debris from the mounting surface and port to ensure the new sensor gets an accurate reading.
Install new sensor
Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with a small amount of clean engine oil. Insert the new sensor and tighten the retaining hardware to OEM torque specs.
Reassemble components
Reconnect the electrical harness until it clicks into place. Reconnect the battery.
Validate repair
Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool. Start the engine and run the machine under a working load to verify that the overboost condition and code 3132 do not return.
