Case IH 3141 (DTC 4465) - ECU – ECU: Fuel pump pressure has exceeded desired pressure limits

The fuel metering unit (FMU) controls the desired fuel flow to the fuel rail. This unit is adjusted by feedback control from the Engine Control Unit (ECU). If the actual fuel pressure exceeds the requested fuel pressure, the system assumes there is a leakage or a failure in the metering unit's ability to regulate flow, and this fault is triggered.

   External Power Check: Verify that the tractor's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply. External power can cause voltage irregularities that trigger false ECU codes.

   Visual Wiring Inspection: Inspect the relevant wiring harnesses and connectors (specifically those routing to the Fuel Metering Unit and high-pressure fuel pump) for damage, bent or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires.

   Harness Flex Test: Verify that all connectors are fully installed. Flex the involved harnesses while monitoring the diagnostic display to reveal any intermittent breaks or shorts in the wiring.

   Mechanical Pump Check: Check the high-pressure fuel pump for abnormal operation, such as excessive mechanical noise ('hammering') or returning too much fuel, which indicates an internal pump failure.

   Disconnect External Power

   If an external power supply is connected to the tractor, disconnect it immediately and test the system for normal operation.

   Repair Wiring

   If the visual inspection or flex test reveals damaged wires, shorts, or corroded pins, repair or replace the affected harness sections and connectors.

   Replace the Fuel Metering Unit (FMU)

   If the wiring is sound, the fault is likely caused by a failing Fuel Metering Unit (also known as the fuel pressure control valve) that can no longer regulate the fuel flow to the rail.

   Replace the High-Pressure Fuel Pump

   If replacing the FMU does not resolve the issue, or if the high-pressure fuel pump is found to be returning too much fuel or making abnormal noises, the pump itself has failed and must be replaced.

   Clear Codes

   Use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or Case IH EST) to clear the fault codes from the ECU and run the machine to confirm the repair.
