Case IH 3141 – Engine Control Module (ECM / Engine ECU): Fuel Pump Pressure Exceeded Desired Limits

The fuel pump pressure has exceeded desired pressure limits. Specifically, the actual fuel pressure has exceeded the requested fuel pressure by 100.0 bar (1450.0 psi). This causes the engine to severely derate in power to protect itself.

   Inspect fuel supply lines and 90-degree fittings for kinks, blockages, air ingress, or plastic shavings from the fuel tank

   Check the water separator filter and housing, especially the built-in check valve on clear-top canister models, for trapped debris

   Test low-side fuel supply pressure before the high-pressure pump to verify it is not dropping during operation

4. 4

   Inspect the engine wiring harness on the left side of the engine for chafing inside the protective sheath

   Measure the fuel return volume from the injectors to ensure they are not leaking excessively

   Clean the Fuel System

   Drain the fuel tank to remove any plastic filings or debris.

   Service the Filters

   Remove the entire base of the water separator filter. Thoroughly clean out the built-in check valve to remove trapped debris, and install new fuel filters.

   Clear the Lines

   Blow out or replace any restricted fuel lines, specifically checking the 90-degree fittings.

   Repair Wiring

   If chafing is found on the left-side engine wiring harness, repair the damaged wires and re-secure the protective loom.

   Replace the Fuel Metering Unit

   If the fuel supply pressure is verified as good but the fault persists (especially when the fuel gets hot), replace the high-pressure pump control solenoid (also known as the fuel metering control valve).

   Replace the High-Pressure Pump

   If replacing the solenoid and verifying injector leakage does not resolve the issue, the high-pressure fuel pump itself may be failing and requires replacement.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 3141 fault code and run the tractor under load (e.g., in the field or on a dyno) to verify the repair, as this code often only triggers after the engine has been running under load for a period of time.
