3142

Case IH 3142 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): High Pressure Test - Test Active

Issue description

This is an informational or historical code logged by the system when a technician actively initiates a high-pressure fuel system test using the manufacturer's Electronic Service Tool (EST). It is not a component failure.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum 235-340 (Series 4)
  • Steiger (350 to 600 HP)
  • Puma series
  • Farmall 115U
  • 580 Super N Tractor Loader Backhoe

Check the cause

  1. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

  2. Check the EDC for any other active fuel-related fault codes (such as low/high fuel rail pressure or metering unit faults).

  3. If 3142 is the only code present, recognize that it was simply left over from a previous diagnostic session where the high-pressure fuel test was run.

Repair steps

  1. Turn key ON

Turn the key to the ON position (engine off).

  2. Connect EST

Connect the CNH EST laptop to the diagnostic connector.

  3. Navigate to EDC

Navigate to the Engine (EDC) fault code screen.

  4. Clear codes

Select the option to clear inactive/historical fault codes.

  5. Verify code clearance

Cycle the key off for 30 seconds, then start the engine to verify the code does not return (it will not return unless the high-pressure test is manually initiated again).
