Case IH 3153 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU: System/Amber Warning Lamp - Excessive Temperature

The control module has detected that the electrical circuit responsible for illuminating the System/Amber Warning Lamp is experiencing an excessive temperature condition. This is typically caused by an excessive current draw in the circuit, a short circuit in the wiring harness, a failing bulb/LED, or an overheating internal driver within the control module itself.

• Case IH Steiger Series (370, 420, 470, 500, 620)

   Check the Warning Lamp Bulb/Cluster for internal shorting or incorrect bulb wattage that could cause the circuit to draw too much current.

   Inspect the Engine Wiring Harness from the Engine ECM to the cab/instrument cluster for chafed wires, melted insulation, or areas where the warning lamp circuit might be shorting to ground or another power source.

   Check ECM Connectors by disconnecting them and inspecting the pins for corrosion, moisture, or arcing, which can cause high resistance and localized heating.

   Disconnect Power

   Always disconnect the tractor's batteries before servicing engine electrical components or the ECM to prevent further damage.

   Isolate the Circuit

   Disconnect the engine wiring harness at the Engine ECM and at the instrument cluster/cab bulkhead.

   Test for Shorts

   Using a digital multimeter, test the amber warning lamp circuit wire for continuity end-to-end, and check for continuity to ground.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short to ground or a damaged wire is found, repair the wire or replace the affected engine wiring harness section.

   Replace the Bulb/Cluster

   If the wiring tests good, replace the amber warning lamp bulb. If the lamp is an integrated LED on the cluster board that has failed and is drawing excessive current, the instrument cluster may need to be replaced.

   Test the ECM

   Reconnect all components, restore battery power, and clear the fault codes. If code 3153 returns immediately and the wiring and lamp are confirmed good, the internal driver inside the Engine ECM is likely damaged/overheated. The ECM will need to be replaced and reprogrammed.
