3175

Case IH 3175 – ENGINE: Exhaust Gas Temperature 1 Sensor Signal Too Low / DPF Intake Temperature Sensor Low Voltage

Issue description

The engine control system is receiving a voltage signal from the primary exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor that has fallen below the minimum acceptable threshold, which typically points to a short to ground, an open circuit, or a completely failed sensor.

Applies to these machines

  • skid steer
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
  • SR175
  • SR270
  • SV300
  • SV340
  • TR320
  • Tractors
  • Steiger
  • Farmall
  • Farmall 100C
  • Farmall 105A
  • Farmall 110U
  • Farmall 115C
  • Maxxum
  • Puma
  • Optum
  • Quadtrac

Check the cause

  1. Verify if fault code 3175 is active. If other voltage-related or CAN bus codes are present (e.g., 3179, 3180), diagnose those first as they may indicate a broader harness issue.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Exhaust Gas Temperature 1 / DPF Intake Temperature sensor for physical damage, melted wires, or corrosion that could cause a low voltage reading or short to ground.

  3. Test the sensor's voltage output to confirm if the signal is falling below the minimum acceptable threshold.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the sensor

Locate the Exhaust Gas Temperature 1 Sensor (also referred to as the DPF Intake Temperature Sensor), which is mounted on the exhaust manifold or at the inlet of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

  2. Disconnect the electrical plug

Disconnect the electrical plug (often a 2-pin Bosch-style connector).

  3. Unthread the faulty sensor

Unthread the faulty sensor from the exhaust pipe/DPF housing.

  4. Install the replacement sensor

Install the replacement sensor (e.g., M14x1.5 thread).

  5. Reconnect the wiring harness

    Reconnect the wiring harness.

  6. Clear fault codes and verify

Use a diagnostic tool (like the EST) to clear the fault codes and run the engine to verify the exhaust temperature is reading correctly and the code does not return.
