Case IH 3182 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Timeout of CAN Message RxCCVS
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) is not receiving the expected 'RxCCVS' (Receive Cruise Control / Vehicle Speed) CAN bus message from the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) or Body Computer (BC) within the required timeframe. This is a communication error on the machine's CAN bus network.

Check the cause
Check CAN Bus Wiring: Inspect the CAN communication lines between the Engine ECM and the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) / Body Computer (BC) for open circuits, short circuits, or disconnected connectors.
Check CAN Terminators: Test the CAN bus terminating resistors. Failed active or passive terminators are a known cause of CAN communication drops on Case IH Magnum and Steiger tractors.
Verify VCM/BC Power: Check for undervoltage or power supply issues to the VCM or Body Computer, as a module dropping offline will stop broadcasting the RxCCVS message.
Check Module Configuration: Verify the configuration of the VCM/BC to ensure it is correctly programmed to broadcast the RxCCVS message to the engine.

Inspect and Repair Wiring

Upgrade CAN Terminators (If Applicable)
If the tractor is utilizing older square 4-pin active or passive terminators, replace them with the updated 3-pin 'cap style' 120-ohm resistor terminators, which are less prone to failure.
Replace or Reflash the VCM/BC
If the wiring and terminators are perfectly intact (showing ~60 ohms across the CAN network with batteries disconnected) and the VCM is unresponsive or failing to send the RxCCVS message, the Vehicle Control Module itself must be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.
