Case IH 3188 (DTC 5316) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Open load error of injector in cylinder 1
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) diagnostic procedure has used pattern detection to identify a hardware error in the power stage of the cylinder 1 injector (component Y-061). The ECU detects that the electrical circuit to the injector is open, meaning there is a broken wire, a disconnected harness, or an internal failure within the injector's solenoid coil.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Puma series
- Magnum series (180, 190, 210, 225, 235-340)
- Steiger series (450)
- Maxxum series
- Axial-Flow 240 series (7240, 8240, 9240)
- 7230
- 8230
- 9230
- A8000 series
- A8800 series
Check the cause
Check for other error codes. If no other error code is present, proceed to the next step.
Verify that the tractor's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply. If connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation.
Inspect the external wiring cables between the injector and the engine control unit for obvious broken wires or disconnections.
Disconnect the engine cylinder harness from the injector (valve) cover at connector X-825. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance on the injector cover side to determine if the open circuit is in the external harness or under the valve cover.
Repair steps
Access the injector
Remove the injector (valve) cover.
Disconnect the injector
Disconnect the internal injector harness from the Cylinder 1 injector at connector Y-061.
Test the injector solenoid
Test the Cylinder 1 injector (Y-061) solenoid coil for continuity.
Evaluate the circuit
If there is no continuity across the injector coil, the Cylinder 1 injector Y-061 solenoid coil has failed internally and must be replaced. If there is continuity across the injector coil, the injector is fine, but there is a wiring failure (such as a short to ground or open circuit) between connector Y-061 (pin 1) and connector X-825 (pin 4). Locate and repair the damaged conductor in the harness.
Clear codes
After the repair is complete, an Electronic Service Tool must be used to remove the faults from the ECU memory.
