Case IH 3190 – Engine ECU: Cylinder2 Warning - Fast Decay Error
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an anomaly in the electrical current decay rate when it commands the Cylinder 2 fuel injector solenoid to turn off. This condition typically points to a short circuit, high resistance in the wiring, or an internal failure of the injector solenoid coil itself on Cylinder 2.

Check the cause
Check the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the Cylinder 2 fuel injector for chafing, shorts to ground, shorts to battery, or open circuits.
Inspect the Cylinder 2 injector connector for corrosion, loose/pushed pins, or oil intrusion, which can alter electrical resistance and cause a fast decay error.
Measure the resistance of the Cylinder 2 injector solenoid coil with a multimeter to verify it is within the manufacturer's specified range.
Use the CNH diagnostic tool to perform an injector click test or a cylinder cutout test to verify if the injector is responding mechanically and electrically.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the machine's battery to ensure safety before working on the engine's high-voltage electrical system.
Gain Access
Depending on the specific FPT engine model, remove the valve cover or access panels to reach the fuel injectors and the internal injector harness.
Clean and Inspect
Clean the connector for the Cylinder 2 injector. If the wiring harness is damaged or oil-soaked, repair or replace the injector wiring harness.
Replace Injector
If the wiring is intact but the injector solenoid failed the resistance test or consistently throws the 3190 code, remove and replace the Cylinder 2 fuel injector.
Reassemble
Reinstall the injector, torque hold-downs to OEM spec, and install a new valve cover gasket (if the cover was removed).
Finalize
Reconnect the battery, bleed the fuel system if required by the engine manual, and use the CNH diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes and verify the repair.
