Case IH 3192 (DTC 5516) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) A-095: Open load error of injector in cylinder 3

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) continuously investigates hardware errors in the injectors and their respective power stages using pattern detection. When this code is logged, it means that during the evaluation of the cylinder 3 injector, the ECU detected an electrical pattern matching an open circuit. This typically indicates a broken wire, a disconnected plug, or an internal failure (open solenoid) within the fuel injector itself.

   Verify if any other error codes are displayed. If no other error code is present, proceed to the next step.

   Check that the tractor battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (such as a jump starter or external charger). If an external power supply is connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the cylinder 3 injector for loose connections, corrosion, or chafed wires.

   Use a multimeter to test the resistance across the pins of the cylinder 3 injector. An infinite resistance reading confirms the injector solenoid has failed open.

   Disconnect power

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical and fuel systems.

   Access fuel injectors

   Remove the engine valve cover or acoustic panels as needed to gain access to the fuel injectors.

   Disconnect injector connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the cylinder 3 fuel injector.

   Repair wiring or proceed to replacement

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair the harness. If the injector itself is faulty, proceed to replacement.

   Clean injector area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the injector to prevent debris from entering the engine.

   Remove fuel supply line

   Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel injection pipe (supply line) connected to cylinder 3.

   Extract faulty injector

   Remove the injector hold-down clamp and carefully extract the faulty injector from the cylinder head.

   Install the new fuel injector, ensuring that a new copper sealing washer and any applicable O-rings are used.

   Reinstall the injector hold-down clamp and torque it to the OEM specification.

    Reconnect lines and wiring

    Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and the electrical connector.

    Restore power and clear codes

    Reconnect the battery, prime/bleed the fuel system, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the ECU fault codes.
