Case IH 3192 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Open load error of injector in cylinder 2

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected an open circuit pattern during its routine evaluation of the injector, recognizing that the electrical circuit to the cylinder 2 injector is incomplete or broken.

   Check if the tractor's battery power supply has been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box or external charger). Disconnect it and test for normal operation, as voltage irregularities can trigger false open load codes.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the cylinder 2 injector. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or loose/corroded connector pins.

   Disconnect the cylinder 2 injector harness and use a multimeter to measure the resistance (Ohms) across the injector's electrical terminals. An infinite reading (OL) confirms the injector solenoid has failed internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Injector

   Remove the engine covers or valve cover (depending on the engine model, e.g., Cursor vs. NEF) to access the fuel injectors.

   Isolate the Fault

   Disconnect the electrical plug at the cylinder 2 injector.

   Test the Circuit

   If the injector tests out of specification (open circuit), the injector itself must be replaced. If the injector tests within normal resistance specifications, the fault lies in the wiring. Perform a continuity test on the wires between the injector plug and the ECU A-095 connector. Repair any broken wires or replace the injector sub-harness.

   Replace the Injector (if faulty)

   Remove the high-pressure fuel line for cylinder 2. Remove the injector hold-down clamp and extract the injector. Clean the injector cup, install a new copper sealing washer and O-rings on the new injector, and torque the hold-down bolt and fuel lines to OEM specifications.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use a diagnostic tool (like the CNH EST) to clear the inactive 3192 / 5516 fault code. Start the engine and verify that the misfire/code does not return.
