Case IH 3194 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Cylinder3 Warning - Fast Decay Error
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical fault in the fuel injection system, specifically related to the fuel injector on Cylinder 3. The Engine Control Unit has detected that the electrical current decay in the injector's solenoid circuit is faster than expected. This typically points to an open circuit, a short, or a failing internal solenoid within the injector itself.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and the Cylinder 3 fuel injector for any signs of chafing, corrosion, or disconnected pins.
Measure the resistance of the Cylinder 3 injector solenoid to check for an open load or short circuit.
Check for excessive fuel leakage rates from the electronically controlled injectors to isolate mechanical failure accompanying the electrical fault.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery power
Disconnect the machine's battery power before servicing the Engine ECU or fuel injection system.
Locate injector
Access the fuel injector rail and locate the injector for Cylinder 3.
Disconnect connector
Disconnect the electrical pigtail connector from the Cylinder 3 injector.
Repair wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged wiring harness or connector, repair or replace the affected wiring segment.
Remove fuel line and clamp
If the wiring is intact and the fault is isolated to the injector solenoid itself, remove the high-pressure fuel line and the hold-down clamp for the Cylinder 3 injector.
Replace fuel injector
Remove and replace the Cylinder 3 fuel injector with a new OEM unit (ensure the injector bore is clean and new O-rings/seals are used).
Reinstall components
Reinstall the hold-down clamp and high-pressure fuel line, torqueing to OEM specifications.
Reconnect power
Reconnect the electrical connector and battery power.
Clear codes and test
Clear the fault codes from the Engine ECU and test run the machine to verify the 'Fast Decay Error' does not return.
