Case IH 3195 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Cylinder3 Warning - Application Dependent
Issue description
The engine control system has detected an anomaly with the fuel injector on cylinder 3. This usually points to an implausible sensor signal, a mechanical response failure, or a cylinder balancing issue where the injector's performance has deviated beyond the software's calibrated limits.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Case IH Magnum Tractors (235, 250, 280, 310, 340, 370, 380)
- Case IH Steiger Tractors (350, 370)
- Case IH Axial-Flow Combines (6130, 7130, 7230, 8230, 9230)
- Case IH Patriot Sprayers (4430, 4440)
Check the cause
Check for accompanying cylinder 3 codes (such as 3194, 3196, or 3197). If present, they point to a hard electrical failure. If 3195 is isolated, it leans toward a mechanical response or fueling balance issue.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the EDC and the cylinder 3 fuel injector for chafing, loose pins, or corrosion.
Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to perform a cylinder contribution or injector cut-out test to verify if cylinder 3 is mechanically underperforming or misfiring.
Measure the resistance of the cylinder 3 injector solenoid to ensure it falls within OEM specifications.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the machine's battery power to protect the EDC and electrical system.
Access injector area
Gain access to the engine valve cover/injector area (procedure varies by specific machine chassis).
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the electrical harness from the cylinder 3 fuel injector.
Repair wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring, repair or replace the injector wiring pigtail/harness.
Remove fuel line and clamp
If the wiring is intact and the injector failed the contribution test or resistance check, remove the high-pressure fuel line and the injector hold-down clamp.
Replace fuel injector
Remove and replace the cylinder 3 fuel injector with a new or remanufactured unit. Ensure the injector bore is clean and new sealing washers/O-rings are used.
Torque components
Torque the injector hold-down and high-pressure fuel lines to OEM specifications.
Reconnect harness and battery
Reconnect the injector electrical harness and the battery.
Configure and clear codes
Connect the CNH EST diagnostic tool, enter the new injector's trim code (if required by the specific FPT engine generation), and clear the fault codes.
Verify repair
Run the engine and verify that code 3195 does not return and the engine runs smoothly.
