Case IH 3196 (DTC 5716) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Open load error of injector in cylinder 2

This code indicates that the engine controller has detected a hardware error, specifically an "open load" (a broken wire, disconnected harness, or an internal break in the injector's solenoid coil) on the fuel injector circuit for cylinder number 2.

   Check External Power: Verify that the tractor battery is not currently connected to an external power supply (like a jump starter or charger). If it is, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation, as voltage irregularities can trigger false ECU injector codes.

   Inspect the Harness: Remove the engine valve/injector cover to access the fuel injectors. Disconnect the wiring harness from the cylinder 2 injector (often designated as Y-062).

   Multimeter Continuity Test (Injector): Test the injector pins. Check for continuity from the injector pin (e.g., Pin 2) to the chassis ground. There should be no continuity. If there is continuity, the cylinder 2 injector solenoid coil has failed internally and the injector must be replaced.

   Multimeter Continuity Test (Wiring): If the injector tests fine, check the wiring harness between the injector connector and the ECU. Look for a broken wire, a disconnected plug, or a short-to-ground condition in the injection cable.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove the engine valve cover/injector cover to expose the fuel rail and injectors.
