Case IH 3199 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC: Cylinder 4 Warning - Application Dependent

The engine's control system has detected an electrical anomaly or performance issue on the fuel injector circuit specifically for cylinder number 4.

• Various other CNH tractors and construction equipment utilizing FPT NEF, Cursor, or F5 engines

   Check the ECM for accompanying fault codes (such as 3200 or 3201) that can further isolate the electrical fault

   Inspect the engine wiring harness routing from the ECM to the cylinder 4 injector for chafing, melted wires, or pinched harnesses

   Disconnect the cylinder 4 injector connector and the ECM connector to check for loose pins, moisture, or corrosion. Ensure the connector at the injector solenoid valve is tightened to 1.36 to 1.92 Nm

   Measure the resistance of the cylinder 4 injector coil using a multimeter (expected value is around 0.6 Ω ± 10%)

   Check the continuity of the wiring between the injector solenoid valve and the corresponding ECM pins to rule out an open circuit or short to ground

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery

   Safety First: prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the fuel injectors and wiring harness

   Depending on the specific FPT engine model (e.g., Cursor vs. NEF), remove the engine covers. If the engine utilizes an internal harness, remove the valve cover to access the fuel injectors and the injector wiring harness.

   Repair or replace the wiring harness

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a short or break in the wiring harness, replace the damaged section or install a new engine injector wiring harness.

   Remove the cylinder 4 injector

   If the injector coil failed the resistance test, clean the area around the injector. Remove the high-pressure fuel line connected to cylinder 4. Remove the injector hold-down clamp and carefully extract the injector.

   Install the new injector

   Install the new injector using new O-rings and a new copper sealing washer. Torque the hold-down clamp and high-pressure fuel lines to the OEM specifications for your specific engine model.

   Reinstall the valve cover and reconnect electrical connectors

   Reinstall the valve cover (using a new gasket if it was removed) and reconnect all electrical connectors.

   Clear inactive fault codes and test run the engine

   Reconnect the battery, connect a diagnostic tool (such as the CNH EASy tool), clear the inactive fault codes, and test run the engine to verify the repair.
