Case IH 32 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Microprocessor: Draft Load Potentiometer Shorted To +12v

The signal voltage from the draft load sensor (often the left-hand draft pin) is too high (exceeding 3.75V), indicating either a direct short to a 12-volt power source in the wiring harness or a sensor overload/internal failure.

   Check if the battery was recently disconnected or lost voltage (this can automatically trigger code 32 on startup)

   Turn the key to the ON position and wait 5 seconds to see if the EDC microprocessor automatically recalibrates and clears the code

   Measure the signal voltage at the draft load potentiometer using a multimeter (a reading above 3.75V indicates a short or overload)

   Inspect the wiring harness between the draft load potentiometer and the EDC module for rubbed wires or pinched lines causing a short to a +12v power wire

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the draft load potentiometer, which is typically mounted on the draft sensing pin assembly on the rear 3-point hitch linkage.

   Inspect and Test Wiring

   Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector. Test the harness-side pins for a short to +12v. If a short is found in the harness, repair the damaged wiring and re-loom.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring harness tests good, the potentiometer itself has failed internally. Unbolt the faulty draft load potentiometer and install the replacement part.

   Recalibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key-start switch to the ON position.

   Verify

   Watch the Tractor Performance Monitor / implement display. Code 32 will flash for 5 seconds as the EDC microprocessor automatically recalibrates to the new sensor. Once the 5 seconds pass, the code should clear, and the hitch will resume normal operation.
