Case IH 32: Multiple Subsystem Failures / Right-Hand Solenoid Fault
Issue description
Code 32 definitions vary by module: TMF (Ground Speed Signal failed), EDC (Draft Load Potentiometer Shorted To +12v), Autopilot (Gyro Z Overvoltage), and PCU (Open/short circuit in backward clutch solenoid). Right-hand solenoid faults specifically apply to loader backhoe ride-control hydraulics.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- MX Maxxum
- MX Series
- TG Series
- MXM Series
- Puma
- Steiger/STX 4WD tractors
- 570LXT
- 580L Series 2
- 580SM
- 590L Loader Backhoes
Check the cause
Verify the Active Module: Check the instrument cluster to see which module (e.g., TMF, EDC, PCU) is broadcasting Code 32 to ensure you are diagnosing the correct circuit.
Electrical Testing: Check the solenoid wiring harness for an open circuit or a short circuit to ground/power. A short to +12V is a common trigger for Code 32 in the EDC system.
Swap Test: If diagnosing the right-hand vs. left-hand solenoid block, swap the electrical connectors between the two solenoids. If the fault code changes to the opposite function, the solenoid coil or actuator is faulty. If the fault remains on the same function, the issue is in the wiring harness or the controller.
Repair steps
Relieve System Pressure
Ensure the machine is off, the loader arms are fully lowered, and hydraulic pressure is relieved before opening the circuit.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector from the right-hand solenoid coil.
Remove Hydraulic Lines
Disconnect the tube running from the right-hand solenoid valve upper port to the tee at the loader control valve lift section.
Remove the Solenoid
Unbolt the solenoid valve assembly from the mounting plate.
Rebuild or Replace
If using a repair kit, replace the case, coil, end plate, guide tube, sleeves, and spring. Otherwise, install a completely new solenoid valve assembly.
Reassemble
Reconnect the hydraulic tubes, ensuring O-rings are seated properly. Reconnect the electrical harness, start the machine, and cycle the hydraulics to check for leaks and clear the fault codes.
