Case IH 3200 (DTC 5416) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC module A-095: Open load error of injector in cylinder 5.
Issue description
This fault indicates a hardware error in the injector or its respective power stage within the Engine Control Unit (ECU). The ECU diagnostic procedure uses pattern detection to identify specific errors. When the pattern for an "open load" (an open circuit or lack of electrical load) is detected during the evaluation of the cylinder 5 injector (designated as component Y-065), this fault code is triggered.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (8010, 8120, 9120, 8230, 9230)
- Magnum Series (235–340 Series 4)
- Steiger Series (350–600 HP, including 385, 435, 450)
- CR Series Combines (CR6.80 to CR9.90)
- T8/T9 Series Tractors
Check the cause
Verify that the tractor's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box or external charger). Disconnect if present and retest, as voltage irregularities can trigger false open load codes.
Disconnect the engine cylinder harness from the injector (valve) cover at connector X-827.
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance on the injector cover side of the harness.
Perform a continuity check. If there is continuity, the Cylinder 5 injector (Y-065) solenoid coil has failed internally. If there is no continuity, there is a short-to-ground or open circuit condition in the Cylinder 5 injector circuit between Y-065 pin 2 and connector X-827 pin 3.
Repair steps
Wiring Repair
If the continuity test reveals an open circuit or short-to-ground in the harness, locate the damaged conductor between the ECU and the cylinder 5 injector and repair or replace the wiring harness.
Injector Replacement
If the wiring is intact but the injector coil fails the continuity/resistance test, the cylinder 5 injector (Y-065) is defective and must be replaced.
ECU Replacement
If both the wiring harness and the injector test perfectly but the open load error persists, the ECU A-095 power stage has likely failed internally. The Engine Control Unit will need to be replaced and reprogrammed by an authorized dealer.
Validation
Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic service tool and run the engine to verify the repair.
